Keep Watch and Pray With Me
Maundy Thursday is the first of what is known as the Three Holy Days—the heart of our Christian life. In ancient days, worship on these three days was seen as one continuous observance. And so, it will be for us. What begins on this day will continue on Good Friday and conclude on Easter Sunday.
According to our Floriography devotionals, “One legend says that after Jesus’ death, lilies were found blooming in the garden of Gethsemane, where they had sprung up in the places [Jesus’] sweat fell to the ground …. Why would Jesus’ sweat be so precious that flowers would spring up where it fell?”
This Maundy Thursday, we will enter into prayer with Jesus, praying in earnest for the needs of our world which weigh on our hearts and minds. We pray for the war in Ukraine, for the almost 1 million lives lost to COVID, for racial justice, for an end to poverty and hunger, for the healing of the nations, for the healing of our bodies, etc. May our prayers be like tears, watering the ground wherein flowers of life may yet grow.
AND we will wash the feet of others through the painting of kindness rocks. Some will then be used in our Good Friday observances. Others we encourage you to take with you and place around the community where they might be found and enjoyed as a message of love, hope, healing, and peace.

“I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you …. A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:15, 34)
